Brad Pitt’s Legal Team Pushes for Financial Transparency from Angelina Jolie in Château Miraval Dispute

Los Angeles, California — In an ongoing dispute over the ownership of Château Miraval, Brad Pitt’s legal team is urging a Los Angeles judge to compel his ex-wife, Angelina Jolie, to provide three years’ worth of financial records. The motion, submitted on July 31, 2026, contends that Jolie initially consented to submit the requested documentation before rescinding her agreement on February 23.

The financial records in question span from 2017 to 2019, a crucial period following the couple’s separation in 2016. Pitt’s request for information extends through 2021, yet it is these three years that Jolie has declined to disclose. Pitt, 62, alleges that Jolie, 51, is withholding important details about her earnings in the aftermath of their marriage, which may have significant implications for their ongoing business interests. Although Jolie agreed to provide certain declarations and profit-participation statements for 2017 to 2021, her withdrawal of that agreement has sparked further legal contention.

Pitt’s legal representatives proposed a resolution that would allow them to withdraw their document requests if Jolie would affirm that she faced no financial coercion from him between 2017 and 2019. However, Jolie rejected the offer. The core issue now lies with the judge, who must determine how deeply Pitt’s attorneys can investigate Jolie’s earnings during their separation.

Jolie’s legal team countered Pitt’s claims, asserting that he is operating on a flawed premise. They argued that Jolie has never claimed financial distress; instead, her focus has been on disentangling her financial affairs from those of her former spouse. Jolie’s attorneys stated that her request for privacy is justified, especially since she has voluntarily provided income and tax documents for the years 2020 and 2021 despite not being obligated to do so.

Since their split, Jolie has not returned to Miraval and has cited abusive behavior by Pitt towards her and their children as a reason for her decision to sell her share of the estate. Pitt has denied these allegations and has been cleared of wrongdoing. Additionally, his legal team is reportedly seeking details about Jolie’s income from film roles, endorsements, and other ventures post-separation. Jolie’s side maintains that her financial matters are unrelated to her sale of Miraval.

The conflict dates back to an agreement made during their marriage regarding the Château, which the couple acquired in 2008 and where they married in 2014. The estate was the center of a contentious $67 million sale orchestrated by Jolie in October 2021, when she transferred her interest to Tenute del Mondo, a spirits manufacturer linked to the Stolichnaya vodka brand. Pitt subsequently filed suit in February 2022, arguing that they had reached a mutual agreement preventing either from selling their respective shares without consent.

Previously, a judge ruled in favor of Jolie by refusing to compel the release of certain communications protected by attorney-client privilege. As the legal battles continue, questions surrounding the estate’s management and ownership remain unresolved. The trial concerning the winery is scheduled for August 2027, adding another layer of complexity to the former couple’s protracted legal saga.
