VERSAILLES, MO – A local woman is facing serious charges after allegedly attempting to poison her husband and two other individuals using rat poison and antifreeze, according to authorities.
Barbaray Clinkenbeard, 62, has been charged with two counts of first-degree domestic assault and two counts of armed criminal action in connection with the incidents.
The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office was alerted to the situation following a welfare check conducted on a Saturday afternoon, prompted by concerns reported to the authorities.
According to court documents, the initial tip came after someone overheard Clinkenbeard admitting to the alleged poisonings during a phone conversation.
The documents detail her claims of mixing rat poison into lemonade in December and antifreeze into tea in January. The report also notes her remarks about obtaining the rat poison and antifreeze from vehicles located on her properties.
The three intended victims reportedly fell severely ill, underscoring the gravity of the situation. Following the call, deputies promptly detained Clinkenbeard. During her transport to the Morgan County Justice Center, she reportedly began singing a religious hymn.
In a subsequent interrogation following her arrest, Clinkenbeard allegedly confessed to the act, claiming awareness that the amount of rat poison she used could be lethal. This information was corroborated by court documents that further detailed her admissions.
Currently, Clinkenbeard is being held without bond at the Morgan County Jail as the legal proceedings unfold. Her case continues to develop, with her facing serious legal repercussions if found guilty of the allegations.
