Woman Charged with Murder After Fatal Shooting During Family Movie Night in Killingly

KILLINGLY, Conn. — A shooting incident that took place in a local home has led to a 65-year-old woman being charged with murder after a man was killed while watching a movie with a child. Authorities reported that the shooting occurred late Monday evening in the Dayville section of Killingly.

Michelle Yeagher faces multiple charges, including murder, reckless endangerment, and carrying a firearm while under the influence. The incident unfolded around 9:30 p.m. at Yeagher’s residence on Pratt Road, approximately 50 miles east of Hartford. According to law enforcement, the victim, identified as 39-year-old Andrew Michael Olson, was watching “Toy Story” with a 12-year-old child when he was shot.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene to find Olson suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. He was quickly transported to Day Kimball Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Investigators spoke with the child who was present during the incident, who reported that Yeagher entered the room unexpectedly and fired the weapon at Olson. Following the shooting, officers located Yeagher in a bedroom and noted that she appeared disoriented and under the influence of alcohol.

During her initial interview with police, Yeagher alleged that Olson had threatened her, claiming she shot him in self-defense. However, her account reportedly shifted during subsequent questioning. Law enforcement found inconsistencies between her statements and the child’s testimony, prompting further investigation.

On Tuesday morning, Yeagher reportedly expressed feeling overwhelmed and admitted to consuming alcohol prior to the incident. She stated that she could barely remember what transpired until she heard Olson in distress and saw him injured on the floor.

Authorities took Yeagher into custody on Monday night after transporting her from her home on a stretcher. She is currently being held on a $1 million bond and is scheduled to appear in court on December 11.

The investigation remains ongoing, and police are still working to uncover more details regarding the events leading up to the shooting and the nature of the relationships involved. Authorities have not yet released additional information that may clarify these aspects of the case.
