Wisconsin woman strangled and suffocated by husband after she tells him to bathe because he hasn’t showered in two months

KENOSHA, WI – A Kenosha man was arrested Sunday after police say he attacked his wife during a heated argument over personal hygiene, leaving her with serious injuries.

Michael Navrotsky, 67, is facing multiple charges, including battery, strangulation and suffocation, and intimidation of a victim after an incident that police say began when his wife, Kimberly Navrotsky, confronted him about his hygiene habits. The 68-year-old woman had reportedly asked her husband to take a shower before sleeping on freshly laundered sheets.

The argument quickly escalated. According to police, Kimberly told investigators that her husband had not bathed in nearly two months. As tensions rose, she said she pushed him away out of fear he might become violent.

Authorities say Michael Navrotsky allegedly grabbed his wife by the midsection and throat during the altercation, making it difficult for her to breathe. She managed to break free but was then reportedly struck in the face multiple times. Police arriving at the scene found visible injuries on Kimberly, including a bloody nose she believed was broken.

Kimberly told officers she attempted to call 911 but was prevented from doing so when her husband took the phone from her. The incident continued as Michael allegedly twisted her ankle, prompting her to fight back before escaping to a neighbor’s home for help. From there, she managed to contact authorities and was later transported to a hospital for her injuries.

When questioned by police, Michael Navrotsky offered a different account, admitting to a “back-handed” slap but claiming he acted in self-defense after being attacked by his wife. He told officers the argument was about not showering for three weeks, not two months as his wife claimed.

Investigators noted that Kimberly’s injuries were consistent with her statements to police regarding the series of events.

A day after the incident, Kimberly informed police that her husband had a history of “delusional episodes” and had been diagnosed with early-onset dementia, conditions that she believes contributed to his behavior. She noted that he had declined treatment for these medical concerns.

Michael Navrotsky was booked into the Kenosha County Jail and charged with substantial battery, strangulation and suffocation, domestic abuse intimidation of a victim, and misdemeanor disorderly conduct. All four charges include modifiers for alleged offenses against an elderly victim.

Bail has been set at $5,000 cash. Navrotsky remains in custody, with his next court appearance scheduled for July 1.
