Tragic End: Young Arizona Woman Found Murdered After Connecting with Suspect on Dating App, Multi-State Manhunt Unfolds

TOLLESON, Ariz. — The tragic death of an 18-year-old woman who recently exited the foster care system has sent shockwaves through the community. After meeting a man on a dating app, Yessenia Norman was reported missing on January 19, prompting a multi-state search that culminated in an arrest in Mississippi.

Norman, known to friends and family as “Sisi,” was last seen leaving a transitional housing facility with plans to meet someone for a date. Concern grew among her friends when they lost contact after several days, leading them to alert authorities. Her body was discovered nearly two weeks later in a Tolleson apartment, concealed beneath blankets and towels.

Investigators found Norman’s remains on January 28 in an apartment registered to 27-year-old Randal Basilio Santillan. An autopsy revealed she had suffered approximately 30 stab wounds. The motive for her brutal killing remains unclear, and police continue to piece together the interactions between Norman and Santillan.

Detectives linked evidence from the scene to Santillan, who had mysteriously vanished around the time of the murder. Following the issuance of an arrest warrant, law enforcement began tracing his movement across multiple states. Surveillance footage tracked his vehicle’s passage through New Mexico, Illinois, and Missouri before it stopped in Biloxi, Mississippi, where he was apprehended on Friday.

Santillan is now being held at the Harrison County Adult Detention Center, awaiting extradition to Arizona. He faces serious charges, including first-degree murder and kidnapping.

Loved ones described Norman as a promising young woman who had recently enrolled in community college, excited to take charge of her future. “She was full of life and had so many dreams,” said a family member. The community continues to mourn as they come to terms with the loss of someone so young and full of potential.

Details regarding the nature of Norman’s relationship with Santillan remain vague. Authorities have not confirmed whether they met in person prior to the tragic events, nor have they disclosed the nature of their communications leading up to her disappearance.

The aftermath of this incident has left Norman’s family grappling with overwhelming grief. To assist with funeral expenses, supporters have established an online fundraiser that highlights her aspirations and the impact she had on those around her.

As the investigation unfolds, authorities have not indicated whether additional charges may be pursued against Santillan or what further details might emerge in the coming weeks. The community remains hopeful for justice as they seek answers in this heartbreaking case.
