HOUSTON, Mo. — Authorities have identified skeletal remains discovered in a shallow grave as those of Ceasar Asbury, a teenage boy reported missing earlier this year. His parents, Chaun and Tamla Asbury, now face second-degree murder charges in connection with his death and for alleged abuse against other children residing at their rural home.
The investigation shifted dramatically from a missing person case to a homicide investigation following the confirmation of the remains by the St. Louis County Medical Examiner’s Office. The Asburys are currently being held without bond at the Texas County Jail.
The arrest came after a search warrant was executed at the couple’s residence on March 10, linked to the missing person inquiry initiated by the Texas County Sheriff’s Office. Reports indicate that Chaun Asbury attempted to flee as law enforcement arrived, while Tamla Asbury exited the home and was detained. During the search, deputies discovered three juveniles living in what they characterized as hazardous conditions, as well as Ceasar’s grave on the property.

Charges against the Asburys include second-degree murder, neglect leading to death, abandonment of a corpse, and various counts of domestic assault. Prosecutors indicated that Ceasar died around May 25, 2022, as a result of abuse or neglect. The abandonment charge pertains to the period following Ceasar’s death until the discovery of the remains in March.
Investigators noted severe living conditions for the surviving children. One juvenile was reportedly found locked in a shed, bound to a bed, and in urgent need of medical care. The home itself lacked basic utilities, and there was evidence of physical abuse and excessive restraint. Reports indicated that the children appeared malnourished and frightened when rescued.
As a result of the allegations, the surviving minors have been placed into protective custody. Prosecutors allege that the abuse spans several years, affecting children now aged 16, 14, 12, 8, and 6. Charges suggest some children suffered physical injuries, while others experienced serious emotional harm due to deprivation of basic needs and emotional support.
