CAHOKIA HEIGHTS, Ill. – A domestic dispute on Thanksgiving Eve led to a tragic shooting that left one man dead and his brother in custody, sending shockwaves through the local community.
Authorities have identified the suspect as 38-year-old Jerome Curry, who allegedly shot his brother, Terrence Curry, 36, before wounding a woman during the violent incident. The events unfolded Wednesday evening across two locations, starting at a home on Piggot Avenue, where police arrived to find the injured woman behind a vehicle. She provided crucial information to the officers about the confrontation that had occurred inside.
Inside the residence, officers discovered Terrence Curry unresponsive and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Witnesses reported seeing Jerome flee the scene in a vehicle, which law enforcement later tracked to a home on Birmingham Drive in nearby Shiloh.
Approximately 30 minutes after the initial shooting, police located Jerome’s car and initiated a standoff at the second residence, where he had barricaded himself in with a family, holding them at gunpoint. Negotiators arrived on the scene and worked to safely resolve the standoff without further escalation. Authorities successfully persuaded Jerome to surrender and release the hostages unharmed.
Jerome Curry now faces serious legal repercussions, including charges of first-degree murder, attempted murder, aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated battery, and unlawful possession of a weapon as a convicted felon. He is set to appear in court next Monday.
