SAN ANTONIO, TX – A San Antonio man faces serious charges after allegedly shooting his ex-girlfriend multiple times following a breakup discussion at a Chili’s restaurant. The incident, occurring late Wednesday, left the 26-year-old woman with critical injuries, according to local police.
Isaac Rivas, 26, has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after he reportedly shot his former girlfriend in various parts of her body, including her groin and back, as she attempted to escape. This confrontation took place after they had met at the restaurant and discussed ending their relationship, which had been ongoing through amicable gatherings post-breakup.
According to court documents, the situation escalated when, after leaving the restaurant, Rivas reacted badly to being told it was time for them to part ways. When she asked him where he wanted to be dropped off, he allegedly made a threatening remark about the situation becoming “ugly.”
Fearing for her safety, the woman drove to a nearby bar, seeking refuge inside. Rivas followed her, demanding she return to the vehicle. In a desperate attempt to protect herself, she tried to use pepper spray, which malfunctioned.
Despite her efforts, Rivas reportedly did not relent, and instead, he posed a rhetorical question regarding her intentions, to which she responded with an apology.
As they left the bar, the situation took a violent turn. While the woman hurried back to her truck, Rivas allegedly fired 11 shots in her direction, hitting her at least four times. She was left with life-threatening injuries yet managed to survive the attack.
The aftermath saw Rivas fleeing the scene. However, he was later apprehended with his mother, who allegedly assisted his attempt to escape by picking him up from the location. Rivas was detained at the Bexar County Jail, with a court appearance expected shortly.
The victim’s current condition remains unclear as of Monday. Authorities have not released her identity, citing privacy concerns amid the ongoing investigation. Rivas’s court proceedings will likely shed further light on this tragic incident that has shocked the local community.
