BRIDGEPORT, TX – Tension that had reportedly simmered behind closed doors ended in tragedy when police responded to a late-night call and discovered a 46-year-old man fatally shot inside a Bridgeport residence.
Authorities arrived at the home Sunday evening after a distraught father reported his son’s death. Once on the scene, officers encountered 45-year-old Sandy Micheal Williams at the front door. According to the police affidavit, Williams did not resist arrest and was immediately taken into custody without incident and later transferred to the Wise County Sheriff’s Office for questioning.
The events unfolded after what investigators describe as a verbal altercation between Williams and her husband, Michael C. Thomas, escalated into violence. Williams alleged that during the argument, Thomas physically assaulted her by grabbing her hair and pulling her to the floor. After the struggle subsided, Thomas is said to have gone upstairs, while Williams retrieved a firearm.
Law enforcement officials say that Williams followed her husband to the upper floor and fired multiple shots. Thomas was pronounced dead at the scene. Police documents indicate that the couple had been married for three years, but officers did not provide information about any previous history of domestic disputes.
During the subsequent interview, Williams reportedly admitted her intentions to investigators. According to the police affidavit, she stated that her actions were deliberate and asserted that she had previously warned Thomas of grave consequences should he ever physically attack her.
Williams was booked into Wise County Jail on a murder charge, with her bond set at $50,000. As of Tuesday, information regarding her next scheduled court appearance had not been released.
Authorities have not commented on any ongoing or past investigations into domestic disturbances at the residence. The Wise County Sheriff’s Office said the case remains open as they continue to gather further evidence and statements from those involved.
The local community was left reeling as details of the case began to circulate, prompting renewed discussions about the dangers that can arise when domestic disputes escalate unchecked.
While law enforcement continues to investigate the incident, no additional suspects are being sought. Autopsy results for Thomas are pending, as is further information about the circumstances leading up to the shooting.
Officials encourage anyone who may have knowledge relevant to the investigation to come forward as the legal process moves forward. Williams remains held at the county jail as authorities prepare for the next steps in her prosecution.
