Kevin’s father, Keith Horton, described an unthinkable scene when he returned home to find Kevin unresponsive. The child’s body was cold, his skin had turned purple, and it was immediately clear to Horton that his son had died. Investigators allege Kevin suffered horrific abuse at the hands of Dominica Mosby, 29, who was in a relationship with the boy’s father and was entrusted with his care. According to police reports, Mosby admitted to inflicting severe injuries on Kevin, including burning him with both a cigarette and a lighter. Authorities say she also struck the child repeatedly and stomped on him, causing fatal internal injuries.
Kevin’s aunt, Jasmine Reece, was among the last family members to see him alive. She said the child was healthy and smiling when she left him in Mosby’s care Friday morning. Reece disputes Mosby’s claim that Kevin had been ill, calling it a fabrication meant to mislead authorities and family members about the true nature of his condition.
When officers arrived at the home to investigate the 911 call Mosby placed early Saturday, they found the boy had already succumbed to his injuries.
