GREEN BAY, Wis. — A man faces serious charges following a violent incident in a local residence that left a woman hospitalized. On June 2, police described a shocking home invasion involving the suspect, Justin Thomas Bacon, 29, who allegedly stabbed a 39-year-old woman in her chest after entering her home on North Clay Street.
According to law enforcement, the incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. when Bacon, who was reportedly residing nearby, entered the woman’s home in response to her yelling at her child. Witnesses recounted that Bacon accused the woman of mistreating her children and attacked her with a knife while forcing his way into the living room. Officers arriving on the scene provided immediate medical assistance to the victim before she was transported to a local hospital due to her serious injuries.
Bacon’s actions are particularly alarming, as he was recently released from prison just weeks prior to this incident. Police are investigating his history, which includes a 2021 conviction for recklessly endangering safety after he assaulted his stepfather with a baseball bat. This prior offense has led to repeat-offender modifiers being applied in his current charges, which include attempted first-degree intentional homicide and armed burglary.
The tension escalated as nearby residents sought to intervene. A 12-year-old boy, the woman’s son, bravely attempted to protect his mother by striking Bacon with a stick during the attack. This moment of desperation highlights the gravity of the situation, as the child attempted to thwart the violence unfolding in front of him. Another witness also intervened, prompting Bacon to flee the scene on a blue mountain bike.
Authorities promptly initiated a search for Bacon, implementing a temporary lockdown at a nearby school during the manhunt. Bacon was apprehended later in the day at the intersection of Main and Abrams streets, approximately four hours after the stabbing. At the time of his arrest, he was found with clothing that bore traces of blood, and police have indicated he may have attempted to elude capture by jumping into a nearby river.
The woman’s account of the attack reveals the terrifying nature of the incident, as she reported feeling disoriented from the rapid escalation of violence. In statements made during court proceedings, she underscored the danger posed by Bacon, stating, “This man is dangerous,” and expressed her distress about her children witnessing the traumatic event.
As investigators continue to gather evidence, local authorities have not announced any allegations of child abuse against the victim despite concerns raised by Bacon’s claims. The focus remains on the charges against him and the violent invasion that left a family shaken.
Bacon is currently held on a $750,000 cash bond, and his next court appearance is scheduled for July 2. Prosecutors are expected to review witness statements and gather more evidence as they build their case against him. Meanwhile, the community remains on edge, reeling from the implications of this sudden act of violence in their neighborhood.
