**Snowstorm:** Sierra Travel Affected, Valley Rain Expected, Live Updates Provided

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Rain and snow are forecasted to impact Northern California on Friday. The Sierra region will experience steady snowfall, affecting travel conditions, while the Valley can expect consistent rainfall. The weather conditions have prompted KCRA 3 to declare Friday as an Impact Day.

Throughout the day, updates on weather-related incidents will be provided. As of 11:20 p.m., snow continues to fall steadily in the Sierra, particularly at elevations above 4500 feet. Chain controls are enforced on I-80, with expectations for snow to remain a concern in the Sierra into Saturday. Skiers are advised to delay their plans to enjoy fresh powder later in the day. In the Valley, winds and showers are expected to weaken overnight.

At 10:15 p.m., rain showers have subsided in the Valley, but snowfall remains significant in the Sierra region. Authorities caution against unnecessary travel, advising drivers to proceed with caution and ensure they are prepared with extra resources. Some businesses in the Sierra, like those in Soda Springs, welcome the snowfall, while others see it as a deterrent.

Chains are mandated on all vehicles, except for four-wheel-drive vehicles with proper snow tires, on Highway 50 between Twin Bridges and Meyers. Traffic disruptions were observed at various points on Interstate 80, with chain controls in effect from Cisco Grove to the Donner Lake Interchange for eastbound traffic. Westbound traffic also requires chains from the Donner Lake Interchange to 2.5 mi east of the State Route 20 junction.

The Sacramento River Cats’ Opening Day game against the Salt Lake Bees has been postponed due to rain, leading to a rescheduled doubleheader on Sunday. As evening approaches, roadways in the Sierra are expected to become more hazardous with snowfall intensifying after sunset. Public transportation and road closures due to accidents have caused delays and disruptions on major routes like Interstate 80.

Throughout the day, Caltrans has been monitoring traffic conditions, releasing updates on chain controls and traffic blockages. The adverse weather conditions are expected to persist through the weekend, impacting travel and outdoor activities in the region. Skiers, drivers, and businesses are all being affected by the snow and rain, with precautions being urged to ensure safety and preparedness while navigating the challenging weather conditions.
