The Silver Sneakers Program: What Is It?
The Silver Sneakers fitness program helps senior citizens stay fit and improve their health through online interactive classes at local gyms. With the help of a fitness instructor, you can achieve your fitness goals in a manner that is appropriate for your age group.
The Silver Sneakers program’s curriculum continues to reflect industry trends with Zumba classes and dance classes, says Richard Ashworth, president, and CEO of Tivity Health. A hugely popular class is line dancing; it’s fun.
Class offerings are constantly being updated. We are incorporating new types of fitness classes into Silver Sneakers to keep it fresh and exciting, Ashworth says.

Where to find Silver Sneakers
Silver Sneakers offers a variety of virtual classes, from bodyweight boot camps to line dancing to stress management and Zumba. Interested in attending an online class? Log on to the Silver Sneakers portal and check your eligibility.
Additionally, hundreds of nutrition and exercise videos are available on-demand through the portal, allowing you to work out from wherever you are without being online at a specific time.
For in-person classes, you can use the fitness center search tool to find one of the over 15,000 Silver Sneakers locations across the country.
According to Ashworth, when selecting a class, instructors themselves are probably the most important factor to consider. Instructors who demonstrate expertise in elderly fitness receive a Silver Sneakers certification.
What you need to do to join Silver Sneakers
The Silver Sneakers eligibility confirmation page lets you know if you qualify. We also have a 1-800 number (1-866-584-7389), which many members like to call to activate their memberships. As part of your initial enrollment packet or at the beginning of your term year, your Medicare Advantage plan will tell you how to join or activate your account. Silver Sneakers members can also simply go to the (eligible) gym and tell them they’re Silver Sneakers members. A portal is available so a gym offering the program can verify your status and take care of you.
