Sacramento Man Arrested After Stealing Fire Department Pickup Truck and Standoff with Police

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – A 32-year-old man was apprehended by police after allegedly stealing a Sacramento Fire Department pickup truck in Sacramento on Saturday night. The incident escalated into a standoff in north Sacramento, with officers resorting to firing pepper balls into the vehicle to subdue the suspect.

The stolen Ford F-150 truck was taken from Sacramento Fire Department Station 12 in the South Land Park area around 8:39 p.m., where it is frequently used by the fire department’s emergency medical services captain. With assistance from a police helicopter, authorities were able to pinpoint the location of the vehicle near R Street and 30th Street.

The driver of the stolen truck evaded law enforcement, prompting a pursuit that involved the deployment of spike strips and a PIT maneuver by police. By 9:43 p.m., the vehicle came to a stop near Fairfield Street and Calvados Avenue in north Sacramento. However, the suspect remained uncooperative, refusing to follow commands given by police.

Shortly before 10:20 p.m., the individual was successfully taken into custody after officers deployed less-than-lethal pepper balls into the pickup truck. The suspect eventually exited the vehicle and was detained without any further incident.
