Phoenix, Arizona – Former NFL first-round draft pick, Billy Price, shocked fans on Saturday morning by announcing his retirement from professional football due to health concerns related to a blood clot. Price, a center, last played in the league during the 2022 season with the Arizona Cardinals.
In an emotional Instagram post, Price revealed that he underwent emergency pulmonary embolism surgery on April 24th to remove a potentially life-threatening clot from his lungs. The 29-year-old athlete expressed gratitude for surviving the ordeal and reflected on the uncertainty of life and health.
Unfortunately, Price shared that the risk of internal bleeding while on blood thinners posed too great a danger for him to continue playing in the NFL. Throughout his career, Price played in 69 games and made 45 starts with the Cincinnati Bengals, New York Giants, and Cardinals after being selected in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft from Ohio State University.
During his time at Ohio State, Price was recognized as the nation’s top center, winning the prestigious Rimington Trophy in 2017. His early retirement from the sport has left fans and teammates saddened but supportive of his decision to prioritize his health and well-being.
