Nicole Kidman Reflects on New Beginnings After Divorce from Keith Urban: ‘We Are a Family’

Nashville, Tennessee — Actress Nicole Kidman has opened up about her recent separation from country music star Keith Urban, emphasizing her focus on family and moving forward. In an interview with Variety, Kidman shared her perspective on life post-separation after nearly two decades of marriage.

On September 30, 2025, Kidman filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences, and sources indicate the couple had been living apart since early summer. A judge finalized the divorce on January 6, 2026, ending a union that began in Sydney’s Cardinal Cerretti Memorial Chapel in 2006.

Kidman, 58, expressed her gratitude for her family during the interview. “I am always going to be focused on the positives,” she noted. “What I value most is my family and our journey moving forward together. That’s my priority, and I keep other matters private out of respect.”

As part of the divorce settlement, Kidman received primary custody of their two daughters, 17-year-old Sunday Rose and 15-year-old Faith Margaret. The custody arrangement grants Kidman 306 days a year with the children, while Urban has visitation every other weekend. Both parents will share major decisions regarding the children’s upbringing, and no spousal or child support is mandated from either party, with property divided amicably.

Neither Kidman nor Urban attended the Nashville court proceedings that concluded their divorce. Their daughters will remain in Nashville, where Kidman has been a long-time resident, solidifying her ties to the city and community over the past two decades.

Despite the personal upheaval, Kidman intends to continue her life in Nashville, a city she describes as central to her identity. The actress feels this environment is crucial for her daughters as well, highlighting her long-standing association with the area and her commitment to community.

The couple had purchased a luxurious property in Nashville in 2008, which includes extensive amenities and has been a stable home base for their family. Sources say Kidman chose to stay in the house to provide stability for her daughters during this transition.

In addition to her family ties, Kidman has cultivated strong friendships within Nashville, particularly with fellow actress Reese Witherspoon, who lives close by. Kidman noted their connection, reflecting on a recent walk they enjoyed together, underscoring her sense of belonging in the community.

This marks Kidman’s second divorce; she was previously married to actor Tom Cruise from 1990 to 2001, with whom she shares two adopted children. She married Urban in 2006 after they met at a gala in Los Angeles.

Reflecting on the challenges of 2025, Kidman acknowledged it was a tough year filled with introspection. Yet, she remains optimistic about her future projects, including a sequel to “Practical Magic,” which is set for release in September 2026. Other upcoming roles include “Scarpetta” on Prime Video and participation in the third season of Taylor Sheridan’s “Lioness.”

Throughout her interview, Kidman reiterated her commitment to keeping the family unit intact, asserting, “We are a family, and that’s how we’ll continue to be.” On New Year’s Day, she shared a photo with her daughters that encapsulated her focus on family and the positive path ahead.

Kidman declined any alimony or child support in the divorce, maintaining her financial autonomy, a hallmark of her successful career in Hollywood. Dressed elegantly, she recently presented an award at the 2026 Oscars, showcasing her continued presence in the entertainment world while navigating her personal changes.
