Middlesbrouh, England — In a bewildering case before Newcastle Crown Court, reports have surfaced of several sightings of Glenna Siviter, a 50-year-old woman, after she was allegedly murdered in December. These accounts contradict official claims that she was killed at her Middlesbrough residence in the early hours of December 11.
Andrew Hall, 46, also from Middlesbrough, stands accused of her murder, vehemently denying the allegations. Over the course of the trial, the court has been presented evvidence suggesting that Siviter suffered a brutal attack, having been stabbed 36 times before her body was covertly placed beneath a sofa at her home on Grimwood Avenue. Her personal jewelry was also reported missing.
Contrary to the gruesome details surrounding her death, five separate witnesses testified to having seen Siviter alive following the presumed time of her death. These sightings ranged from casual encounters in the vicinity of her home to her frequenting a local sandwich shop where she purportedly ordered her standard lunch. Notably, none of these alleged appearances were corroborated by CCTV footage, which failed to capture any images of Siviter at the reported times and locations.
Prosecutor Peter Moulson KC told jurors that the police had conducted extensive interviews in the area subsequent to the discovery of Siviter’s body on December 15. During these interviews, witnesses provided various accounts of encountering Siviter, leading to ambiguity about her exact time of death.
One prominent claim included a sighting of Siviter by a woman from her bedroom window late on the night of December 11. Additionally, another local resident asserted that Siviter visited their house the same evening, and was again seen the following day. A sandwich shop employee also contributed to the intriguing narrative by stating Siviter visited the establishment on December 14 — a claim unsupported by security footage.
Detective Constable Darren Lee, involved in reviewing municipal CCTV footage, indicated that the recordings did not substantiate the claims of Siviter’s whereabouts. In cross-examination, Mr. Hall’s defense attorney, Nicholas Lumley KC, emphasized the gaps in surveillance, highlighting that the absence of footage did not necessarily dispute the eyewitness accounts.
Mr. Lumley probed further, underscoring that while the camera system continuously patrolled the area, it captured only fragments of the scene, rendering it impossible to definitively rule out the alleged sightings. He stressed that lack of direct evidence should not lead to swift conclusions about the witnesses’ credibility.
Apart from the murder charge, Hall is also facing accusations concerning the attempted murder of two men. It is alleged that following Siviter’s murder and prior to the discovery of her body, Hall had been consuming crack cocaine with the men.
