Missouri 20-year-old man shoots his sleeping parents in their bed and claims his mom stole rent money

KANSAS CITY, MO – A Kansas City man is facing murder charges for allegedly shooting his parents, authorities confirmed. The tragic incident unfolded in a motel room where 20-year-old Jason C. Sessoms is accused of killing his father, Marvin Sessoms, 42, and mother, Maleeka Sessoms, 38.

The Kansas City Police Department discovered the couple’s bodies, both victims of gunshots, around 3:45 a.m. last Friday at an Extended Stay motel on North Corrington Avenue. Detectives swiftly identified Sessoms as their primary suspect. Later that day, he was apprehended in Paw Paw, Michigan, approximately 600 miles from where the crime occurred.

Sessoms initially fell into police custody over different charges, including home invasion. Missouri law enforcement followed suit by formally charging him with two counts of first-degree murder after gathering sufficient evidence over the weekend.

Key to this investigation is Sessoms’ 10-year-old brother, who reportedly told investigators about witnessing Jason murder their parents, although details about whether or not he directly witnessed the shooting remain unclear. Surveillance footage captured the siblings loading a black Mitsubishi before driving away from the Kansas City motel.

The unfolding narrative reveals a family journey interrupted by tragedy. The Sessoms family had initially embarked on a trip to Georgia to visit a relative but returned to Kansas City for a forgotten laptop. Complicating the storyline further, family members mentioned that the family was attempting to leave Kansas City due to Jason’s assertions of being targeted.

Attempts by the family to contact Marvin and Maleeka went unanswered, adding to growing concerns. Unbeknownst to them, the phones of the deceased were being used elsewhere, leading to further suspicion. Shortly after, a missing persons report was filed by Marvin Sessoms’ sister, prompting police discovery of the horrific scene.

In a subsequent interview, Jason Sessoms allegedly concocted a story claiming that a “tall and buff” Hispanic man was responsible for the murders. However, he later confessed, citing a belief that his mother had taken some of his money to pay for their motel stay.

Currently held on a $2 million bond, Sessoms remains in Michigan’s Van Buren County Correctional Facility as he awaits extradition to Missouri to face his charges.
