Man Arrested After Allegedly Assaulting and Strangling Woman Outside Dollar General in Vine Grove

VINE GROVE, Ky. – A man from Meade County is facing serious legal consequences after being accused of assaulting a woman outside a Dollar General store early Saturday morning, prompting a police response and a brief standoff at his home.

Donald Brown, 48, is alleged to have attacked a woman while both were inside a parked vehicle at the store. Investigators reported that the altercation escalated to physical violence, during which the woman was reportedly strangled before she either exited or was forced from the vehicle, resulting in her hitting her head on the ground.

Kentucky State Police received a 911 call just after midnight Sunday. The woman, who made the call, described the incident and identified Brown as her assailant. Although her injuries were classified as minor, she was able to provide authorities with crucial details about the attack.

After the incident, Brown fled the scene. With the investigation progressing swiftly, police were led to his residence on Jennings Knob Road in Vine Grove. When officers arrived, they instructed Brown to step outside, but he reportedly refused to comply, resulting in a tense standoff.

To resolve the situation, law enforcement secured search and arrest warrants for Brown. After several hours of waiting, police gained entry to the house around 7:30 a.m. and arrested Brown without further confrontation.

He now faces significant charges, including first-degree strangulation and fourth-degree domestic assault, both linked to the domestic violence allegations. Jail records show that Brown has been taken to Meade County jail, where he is being held without bond pending an initial court appearance, the details of which have yet to be announced.

As the investigation continues, authorities have chosen not to disclose the identity of the victim or provide further details regarding her condition, emphasizing the need to protect the integrity of the ongoing inquiry. Additionally, the specific location of the Dollar General involved in the incident remains undisclosed as investigators continue to gather evidence.

Domestic violence remains a critical concern in Kentucky, prompting state officials to urge victims to seek assistance and report incidents as promptly as possible. Vine Grove, home to approximately 6,000 residents, is located about 45 miles south of Louisville. The Kentucky State Police are actively pursuing this case as part of their commitment to addressing domestic violence in the region.
