Kevin Bacon Returns to Utah High School for Iconic ‘Footloose’ Prom Celebration

PAYSON, UTAH — Actor Kevin Bacon made a surprise appearance at Payson High School in Utah, where his iconic 1984 film “Footloose” was filmed. Bacon fulfilled his promise to return to the school after students initiated a #BacontoPayson social media campaign to convince him to attend their final prom.

Bacon commended the students for their determination and effort in catching his attention, stating, “When I first heard about this Bacon to Payson thing, I was like, ‘Wow, this is crazy.’ But you were all just tireless.” The students’ dedication ultimately convinced Bacon to make the visit to Payson High School.

The school, set to relocate at the end of the academic year, pledged to create 5,000 essential resource kits for Bacon’s Sixdegrees.org foundation, which supports underserved communities. The initiative, known as “Footloose40,” aims to pack and distribute up to 40,000 kits to those in need.

During his visit, Bacon was presented with an honorary diploma from Payson High School. He mingled with students, took photos with them, and even revisited his locker during his trip down memory lane. The actor expressed his gratitude for the students’ efforts, turning a simple reunion into a positive and impactful experience.

“Footloose,” released in 1984, tells the story of a teenager, portrayed by Bacon, who challenges a small town’s ban on dancing. The movie culminates in a prom scene, which remains an enduring symbol even after 40 years.
