Kentucky man steals food from woman’s children and taunts her when she confronts him about it then shoots her

LOUISVILLE, KY – An argument over children’s snacks escalated into gunfire on Sunday evening, leaving a woman with a gunshot wound to the arm and a Louisville man facing felony charges.

According to authorities, the altercation began inside a home when a woman discovered that the snacks she had set aside for her children were missing. Family members present at the time reportedly saw 57-year-old Kenneth Beals eating the food and alerted the woman. The situation turned confrontational as the woman encountered Beals in the home’s entryway as he was leaving.

Moments later, a brief exchange between the two—centered on the missing snacks—quickly turned violent. Police say Beals admitted to consuming the food, and then, in the course of the confrontation, drew a firearm and shot the woman in her left arm.

Despite the injury, the victim managed to drive herself to the University of Louisville Hospital emergency room, where she received treatment for what authorities described as a non-life-threatening wound. Hospital staff notified police, prompting an investigation that led officers to the scene of the shooting.

Witnesses at the home corroborated the victim’s account, identifying Beals as the individual responsible for firing the weapon. Officials took Beals into custody later that evening without incident.

Beals was booked into the Louisville Metropolitan Detention Center on charges of second-degree assault and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. Jail records show he is being held on a $5,000 bond while awaiting further legal proceedings.

Sunday’s incident underscores the rapid escalation that can occur in domestic disputes, especially when firearms are present. According to local authorities, Beals has a prior felony conviction, which prohibits him from possessing firearms under Kentucky law.

Court officials scheduled a preliminary hearing for early next year, at which time additional evidence in the case may be presented.

No other injuries were reported in connection with the incident, and police have not released further information on the circumstances leading up to the confrontation.

As the investigation continues, law enforcement urges households to seek peaceful solutions to disagreements and to report any threats of violence or illegal firearm possession.

The woman is expected to recover fully from her injury, according to hospital staff.
