TAVARES, Fla. — A woman in Florida has been sentenced to three years in prison for her role in a planned ambush that left her male friend wounded during a late-night shooting in Clermont. Prosecutors stated that the plot unfolded within hours of the gunfire, as she and her boyfriend reconnected shortly before the incident.
Arianna Selina Gajraj, 23, pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. Lake County Circuit Judge Cary F. Rada imposed the 36-month sentence, marking a significant moment in a case constructed from extensive phone records, online messages, and surveillance footage. While the victim survived, the investigation into the alleged shooter, Brandon Pirela, remains ongoing as he awaits his sentencing.
The attack occurred on December 1, 2023, shortly after midnight on Peppermill Trail. Authorities received reports of gunfire in the area, prompting a response from deputies who arrived to find evidence of a shooting. The victim had picked up Gajraj shortly before the incident so they could smoke marijuana and discuss recent tensions involving Pirela. The victim later informed police that he had felt threatened by Pirela’s harassing messages, which accused him of being involved with Gajraj.
After driving through the neighborhood, the victim’s ordeal escalated when a white Toyota Camry with tinted windows blocked his path. A man exited the vehicle and opened fire, unleashing 21 rounds, striking the victim’s car multiple times. The victim managed to flee and reported the incident to police at their local station.
Investigators meticulously examined the shooting site, where they discovered 21 spent 9 mm casings around the victim’s car, which had sustained 13 bullet strikes. They also noted damage to a nearby work truck and mailbox. The victim identified Pirela as the shooter, citing familiarity despite the gunman’s efforts to conceal his identity.
Authorities uncovered that Gajraj and Pirela had discussed their plans in messages exchanged on the Pinger app. Their communications revealed a shift from focusing on their relationship issues to plotting against the victim. Gajraj proposed meeting the victim to earn his trust, while Pirela made ominous declarations regarding the planned assault.
Further analysis of digital evidence showed that Gajraj shared their location shortly before the shooting occurred. Surveillance footage indicated Pirela’s vehicle was present at Gajraj’s residence shortly before the ambush. Given the evidence, authorities constructed a timeline pointing to careful planning rather than a spontaneous act of violence, attributed to jealousy and suspicion stemming from previous relationships.
Gajraj’s decision to plead guilty came as the legal proceedings divided — she avoided trial while Pirela faced a jury. Following a trial in January, Pirela was found guilty of attempted murder and conspiracy, with a sentencing hearing scheduled for early April.
Despite the chaos, the victim emerged unharmed, highlighting the intensity of the gunfire that did not injure any bystanders. The details of this case reflect a troubling blend of personal turmoil and premeditated violence, showcasing the potential for emerging threats from seemingly intimate disputes. As Gajraj begins her sentence, the legal journey continues for Pirela, with both sentences illustrating the serious consequences of their actions.
