Hoover, Alabama — A 30-year-old woman has been arrested and charged with murder following the discovery of a 70-year-old woman’s body in a community swimming pool. The victim, identified as Terry Lynn Walker-Zuniga, was found unresponsive after what investigators believe was a physical confrontation moments earlier.
Authorities have charged Anastasia Tsefia Sudarsana, also from Hoover, in connection with Walker-Zuniga’s death. The two women were acquaintances, though investigators have not detailed the extent of their relationship or provided a motive for the incident. Emergency responders were dispatched shortly after 9:30 p.m. on September 3, when someone called 911 to report an unresponsive individual in the pool located on Little Valley Road.
When police arrived just minutes later, they found Walker-Zuniga lifeless. Despite efforts to resuscitate her, she was pronounced dead at 10:06 p.m. The subsequent investigation indicated that there had been a struggle shortly before her death, prompting detectives to classify the incident as a homicide. However, specific details regarding the nature of the struggle and the evidence collected have not been made public.
Detectives were able to identify Sudarsana as a person of interest near the scene. While they acknowledged her acquaintance with Walker-Zuniga, they have not disclosed how she was connected to the pool location or if any witnesses were present during the altercation. The police have also remained silent on any statements Sudarsana may have given to investigators.
Following the examination of evidence, Hoover police presented their findings to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office, leading to Sudarsana’s arrest on September 4. As of now, she is being held without bond at the Jefferson County Jail. The murder charge against her represents an accusation, and it is yet to undergo legal proceedings in court.
Initially, the victim’s identity was withheld as authorities notified family members. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office later confirmed Walker-Zuniga had suffered injuries consistent with an assault, solidifying police suspicions surrounding her death. Nevertheless, an official determination of the cause and manner of death is pending as the coroner conducts further investigations.
The circumstances leading to the confrontation remain unclear, with investigators labeling the women’s connection as one of mere acquaintance. They have not provided information about their interactions or how they ended up together at the pool that fateful night. No details regarding a possible argument or other motivating factor have been disclosed.
The setting of the incident—a community pool—adds an unusual element to the investigation, as emergency personnel were initially responding to a report of an unresponsive individual rather than a crime scene. As details continue to emerge, police have indicated that they will release further information once the investigation is complete.
As of mid-October, the investigation is ongoing. Authorities have yet to release the final autopsy report or clarify the motive behind Walker-Zuniga’s death. The legal proceedings against Sudarsana are pending, with no updates indicating any resolution to the murder charge.
