ANDERSON, Ind. — A tragic incident at Forestville Cemetery in Summitville left a community in shock as 47-year-old Jeremy Hinson allegedly confessed to the inexplicable shooting death of his wife, Michela Hinson, also 47. The fateful event unfolded on June 26, culminating in charges of murder laid against Jeremy Hinson earlier this week.
In a somber conversation recorded at the Madison County Jail, Jeremy expressed his remorse to a relative, admitting his confusion over the motives behind his actions. He emphasized his concern for their sons, admitting fault and his unclear state of mind at the time of the shooting.
The discovery of Michal Hinson’s body prompted immediate medical attention for Jeremy Hinson, who was suspected of an overdose and taken to Community Hospital Anderson. It was there that Deputy Doug Beltz of the Madison County Sheriff’s Department first noticed the apparent blood stains on Jeremy’s body. A thorough examination revealed dried red specks scattered across his forehead, eyelids, arms, hands, and ankles.
A subsequent search of Hinson’s vehicle, authorized by a warrant, led Deputy Beltz to find six shell casings and multiple bullet entry point into the vehicle’s back cushion directly behind the driver’s seat, which Michela occupied. Inside the vehicle, law enforcement officers also retrieved a 9-mm handgun equipped with ammunition, including a loaded chamber and two magazines.
An autopsy conducted by Dr. Kent Harshbarger revealed that Michela Hinson had sustained seven gunshot wounds to her torso and upper right arm. The wounds to the torso were closely fired, suggesting near contact during the shooting process.
The alarm was initially raised on that June afternoon when a 911 caller reported a suspicious vehicle at the back of the cemetery. Upon arriving at the scene, deputies found Michela deceased in the driver’s seat with multiple gunshot wounds to her chest and abdomen. Jeremy was discovered in the passenger seat and was found to be carrying a semi-automatic handgun in his waistband upon exiting the vehicle.
