One of the key bills signed, House Bill 7 – Healthcare Affordability Fund, focuses on reducing insurance costs for small businesses, employees, and low to moderate-income individuals through the state’s health insurance exchange program, beWellnm. The bill, sponsored by various representatives and senators, aims to provide financial relief and ongoing support for affordable health insurance in New Mexico.

Senate Bill 17, known as the Health Care Delivery and Access Act, is designed to support healthcare access in rural areas by creating a Medicaid Directed Payment Program. Senator Stefanics emphasized the significance of this legislation in providing better healthcare in New Mexico, particularly in rural communities.

Additionally, Senate Bill 161 – Acute Care Facilities Subsidies, creates a temporary financial assistance grant program for independent rural hospitals until long-term support is enacted.
