New York, N.Y. — “Good Morning America” closed its September 17, 2026, broadcast with a poignant tribute to Judd Parson, a cherished editor who dedicated nearly 25 years to the popular morning show. The program’s anchors delivered an emotional farewell to their longtime colleague after his recent passing.
“It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of Judd’s passing,” said George Stephanopoulos, addressing viewers as the broadcast neared its conclusion. He spoke warmly of Parson, describing him as someone who embodied kindness and a lighthearted spirit. “He had a warm smile, an easy sense of humor, and he genuinely loved to help others.”
Michael Strahan emphasized Parson’s significant influence, noting the impact he made through mentoring numerous producers and editors over the years. “Judd leaves behind a legacy that resonates with the many GMA team members he inspired,” Strahan remarked, highlighting Parson’s role in shaping the careers of those he trained.

While the exact cause of Parson’s death remains undisclosed, he is survived by three children and five grandchildren. Strahan shared the editor’s passion for cooking, golf, music, and storytelling, but emphasized that family was always his top priority.
This loss marks the second time in a matter of weeks that the “Good Morning America” team has mourned a cherished member of its crew. On September 3, the program honored Francisco Antonio “Fran” Saldaña, a valued maintenance engineer who passed away on August 29 at the age of 70 due to congestive heart failure.
Rebecca Jarvis led the tribute to Saldaña, reflecting on his impressive career that began in the Dominican Republic, where he covered vital historical events such as the Nicaraguan revolution. After relocating to the United States, Saldaña worked in television for more than five decades, joining Disney and ABC News in 2017.
“He contributed to launching cable systems and even taught at the college level before his esteemed tenure at ABC,” said anchor Whit Johnson. “We will remember Fran for his endless curiosity, love of travel and gardening, and his delightful sense of humor. His presence will be dearly missed.”
