Forensics say Maryland man stabbed himself to stage stabbing death of his 22-year-old girlfriend to look like self-defense

BALTIMORE, MD – A Maryland man is facing a murder charge after the fatal stabbing of his ex-girlfriend, an incident described as a tragic culmination of fear expressed by the victim just a day prior. Rashard Mack, 23, was arrested and accused of killing 22-year-old Taejhiana Walker at a Baltimore residence over the weekend, according to authorities.

The Baltimore Police Department reported that officers responded to a call concerning a domestic disturbance on Nunley Drive at around 1 p.m. Saturday. Upon their arrival, they discovered Walker and another individual suffering from apparent stab wounds inside the residence. Walker was pronounced dead at the scene, while Mack, who had non-life-threatening injuries, was taken to a nearby hospital before being detained.

Initially, Mack claimed to police that Walker had attacked him with a knife, prompting him to defend himself. Court documents revealed that Mack alleged Walker attempted to stab him, leading to a struggle over the weapon. He reported breaking the blade and later using a pair of scissors in what he portrayed as self-defense.

However, investigators concluded that the evidence contradicted Mack’s account. They surmise that Mack attacked Walker while she was on the bed and inflicted his own wounds.

During interviews, Walker’s roommate recounted that the pair met online last summer, with their relationship deteriorating as Walker ceased contact earlier this year. Mack’s persistent attempts to reach her reportedly escalated tensions.

A text message unearthed from Walker’s phone, sent shortly before her death, named Mack as a potential threat. “If I end up dead, his name is Rashard Mack,” the message ominously read.

Mack remains held without bond at the Baltimore County Detention Center as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The case highlights concerns about domestic violence, with Walker’s story shedding light on the dangers faced by individuals in toxic relationships. Her untimely death has sparked dialogue about recognizing warning signs and the importance of seeking help in volatile situations.
