Florida Man Held Without Bond as Authorities Shift Missing-Person Case to Homicide Investigation After Remains Discovered

DUNNELLON, Fla. — Authorities have escalated a missing-person investigation into a homicide case after human remains were discovered behind the home of a 25-year-old suspect. The case centers around the disappearance of 43-year-old Andres Bahamon-Prada, who was reported missing on May 16 after not being seen since May 7.

The sheriff’s office apprehended Andres Bahamon under suspicion of tampering with evidence related to his father’s disappearance. Initial inquiries began when Bahamon-Prada’s family expressed their concerns, prompting law enforcement to uncover signs of potential foul play. The remains, uncovered on the property where the pair lived, have yet to be publicly identified, and the official cause of death remains undetermined.

According to court documents, investigation details reveal Bahamon-Prada’s mother was the last person to see him alive, having met her son before he visited a gym. She grew worried when communication ceased and reached out to her grandson for information. Bahamon initially claimed ignorance about his father’s whereabouts, later making a peculiar remark indicating something sinister was afoot, suggesting his father was “preventing the flower from blooming.”

The investigation picked up momentum following a crucial tip from Bahamon’s grandmother. She reported seeing her grandson at a store where he allegedly confessed to killing his father. Deputies responded to the family’s home on Northwest 225th Avenue and observed evidence that warranted further investigation, including a shattered back door and bullet-related findings.

Detectives conducted a search of the residence and focused on an area of disturbed ground in the backyard. Their efforts yielded a large rolled carpet suspected of containing human remains. While the sheriff’s office has not identified the remains, they have classified the case as a homicide investigation and have not yet filed murder charges against Bahamon.

Additional evidence tying Bahamon to the investigation includes troubling communications with family members, including a photo allegedly depicting Bahamon-Prada’s body, sent by his mother who resides in Germany. She urged his family to call the authorities after receiving the unsettling image. During questioning, Bahamon reportedly made statements that implied knowledge of his father’s fate but did not cooperate fully with law enforcement.

In an eerie twist, the Dunnellon property has a history of violent crime; a woman’s torso was discovered there in 2009, in a separate case. Zachary Snyder, who was charged with that crime, pleaded guilty to murder. Current property owners stated they were unaware of the past when they purchased the home in 2017 and began renting to Bahamon-Prada last November.

The investigation also involves a missing vehicle belonging to Bahamon-Prada. Authorities are attempting to locate a silver 2007 Infiniti M35, believed to be linked to vital evidence in the case. The timeline of events surrounding Bahamon-Prada’s disappearance remains unclear, with detectives scratching their heads as to what transpired following his departure from the gym.

As Bahamon’s legal proceedings continue, he remains in custody without bond. His next court appearance is set for June 23. Without additional charges announced or forensic results from the remains released, the investigation will require confirmation from the medical examiner and a thorough evaluation of the evidence from the property. For now, Bahamon retains his status as a person of interest amid a burgeoning homicide investigation, with his father still listed as missing.
