ORLANDO, FL – A Florida man faces a first-degree murder charge following the tragic shooting death of his wife amid a dispute over divorce documents. Authorities say Lamar Bryant, 41, allegedly killed Takeshia Bryant, 42, in their home just days after she filed for divorce.
Takeshia, who had filed the divorce papers under her maiden name, Eads, was reportedly shot inside the Orlando residence late in the afternoon of March 25. Police reports indicate that Lamar Bryant refused to comply with the divorce request before the violent incident.
According to an affidavit, the chain of events began shortly after Bryant picked up his daughter from school, exhibiting signs of intoxication. Witnesses stated to authorities that Bryant appeared to be under the influence, showcasing erratic behavior and derogatory language.
He then allegedly drove with his daughter and another young passenger to a liquor store, where he bought alcohol and consumed it en route to a local storage facility. This storage unit, as noted by his daughter, was reportedly used to stash firearms and illegal substances. Bryant later retrieved two firearms from the unit, which he then placed inside the vehicle.
The affidavit reveals that when they arrived at their West Livingston Street home, Takeshia Bryant approached her husband’s vehicle, and the two children exited. Bryant purportedly asked his daughter to hide the weapons behind the house, uneasy about a helicopter he suspected was surveilling them.
As the aircraft departed, Lamar Bryant allegedly retrieved the hidden firearms and proceeded into the house, where Takeshia had gone to use the bathroom. Roughly 15 to 20 minutes later, Bryant’s daughter, who remained outside, heard noises resembling gunshots.
Shortly thereafter, Lamar Bryant reportedly emerged from the back of the house. When questioned by his daughter, he dismissed her concerns and left the premises. It was then that the daughter discovered Takeshia in the bathroom and contacted emergency services. Responding officers and investigators corroborated witness statements with the scene’s evidence, underscoring the premeditated nature of the crime.
Family members remember Takeshia Eads as the “backbone” of their family, expressing their grief over losing a woman who profoundly impacted many lives. Takeshia was a mother to four children, with more grandchildren expected soon.
Lamar Bryant appeared in court for the first time last Thursday, where a judge ordered him to remain in custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for April 1. As the judicial process unfolds, a community mourns a life cut short by violence.
