Florida Dog Training Facility Owner Charged After Three Dogs Die from Blunt Force Trauma

PALM CITY, Fla. — The Martin County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of a dog training facility owner in connection to the deaths of multiple dogs which allegedly resulted from blunt force trauma. Nikki Camerlengo, the owner of the now-closed Pawsitively Paradise, faces a charge of animal cruelty. Authorities revealed the unsettling details regarding the nature of the dogs’ deaths, indicating they suffered prolonged pain before succumbing.

Forensic analysis by two independent facilities confirmed the cause of death to be blunt force trauma. The Sheriff’s Office described the findings as indicative of “long and painful deaths,” underscoring the severity of the abuse.

The investigation was triggered after three dogs, identified as Beau, a two-year-old Cavapoo; Flurie, a 15-month-old Goldendoodle; and Mako, a two-year-old flat coat retriever, died under suspicious circumstances after being placed in the care of Camerlengo’s facility.

Further inquiries by authorities have led to suspicions of additional unreported incidents involving canine deaths or severe injuries. These incidents seemingly occurred under similar conditions while the dogs were entrusted to Camerlengo’s care, raising alarming concerns about the extended pattern of neglect and abuse.

Reports began emerging shortly after initial media coverage about the ongoing investigation. Several pet owners came forward, sharing stories of their healthy dogs either dying or incurring serious injuries after stays at the facility, some cases reportedly dating back several years.

Camerlengo was apprehended in Fort Pierce, where she had relocated her business following the commencement of the criminal investigation. She was then booked into the St. Lucie County jail. While currently facing a single count related to Beau’s death, authorities anticipate additional charges will be filed as the investigation proceeds.

This case has ignited discussions about the oversight and regulation of pet care facilities, with many community members and pet owners calling for stringent standards and rigorous inspections to safeguard animal welfare.

The local law enforcement and animal protection agencies are urging anyone with potentially relevant information or similar experiences to come forward, as they continue to compile evidence in this profoundly troubling case.

As the investigation unfolds, the community remains hopeful for justice on behalf of the animals who suffered under Camerlengo’s care, and for preventive measures that will protect future pets from similar fates.
