Coatesville, Pa. — A 53-year-old man faces third-degree murder charges after a heated exchange with another man resulted in a fatal fall from a second-story balcony. Neftali Feliciano-Perez is accused of pushing Moises Galarza-Bermudez, who then fell through a balcony railing in a tragic incident that unfolded Saturday evening.
According to police, the incident occurred just before 10 p.m. on April 18 at an apartment building located on East Lincoln Highway. Authorities stated that Feliciano-Perez and Galarza-Bermudez were engaged in a dispute that escalated while on the balcony of Galarza-Bermudez’s apartment. In a sudden moment of aggression, Feliciano-Perez allegedly shoved Galarza-Bermudez against the railing, leading to both men plummeting to the ground below.
Officers arriving at the scene discovered Galarza-Bermudez lying on the sidewalk with significant head injuries and no pulse. First responders rushed him to a nearby hospital, but he was later pronounced dead. Investigators reported that Feliciano-Perez remained at the scene and was quickly apprehended.
Chester County District Attorney Christopher de Barrena-Sarobe described the situation as “an altercation that got out of control.” He expressed condolences to the victim’s friends and family as the case underscores the tragic consequences of violent confrontations.
Feliciano-Perez was arraigned shortly after his arrest, with a bail set at $750,000. He currently awaits his preliminary hearing scheduled for April 29, where prosecutors must present sufficient evidence to move the case forward to court. Charges against him include not only third-degree murder but also involuntary manslaughter and aggravated assault, giving prosecutors multiple options as they build their case.
The investigation seeks to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the fall, including what prompted the argument and whether alcohol played a role. Authorities have yet to disclose the age of Galarza-Bermudez or if Feliciano-Perez sustained any injuries. The state of the balcony railing, which failed during the incident, could be a crucial factor in both the prosecution’s and defense’s arguments.
Detectives are keen on gathering additional witness testimonies, which could include accounts from residents within the building or passersby at the time of the incident. The public-facing nature of the fall, occurring in a busy area of Coatesville late at night, may further amplify the community’s interest in the case.
As the legal process unfolds, the relationship between Feliciano-Perez and Galarza-Bermudez remains unclear, as does the complete scope of events leading to the tragedy. Authorities continue to investigate the specifics of the incident, including any potential surveillance footage that may provide more context.
With Feliciano-Perez remaining in custody, the community watches closely as the case progresses through the Chester County court system. Legal experts suggest that the outcome may hinge on determining the intent behind his actions at the time of the push, pivotal for the charges of murder and manslaughter.
