DoorDash driver in Texas leaves her 3-year-old son in car and he chokes with head in moonroof

BELTON, TX – A Texas mother faces charges after her toddler was found injured in the moonroof of her vehicle while she was picking up a DoorDash order. Angela Moreno, 24, was arrested following a police investigation of the October 2024 incident that left her 3-year-old son unconscious.

According to Belton police, Moreno was working as a delivery driver for DoorDash when she stopped at a restaurant on October 10, 2024. She reportedly left her two children, aged 3 and 1, unsupervised in her car while she went inside to collect an order. When she returned approximately 10 minutes later, she discovered the older child with his head caught in the vehicle’s moonroof.

First responders were dispatched around 9 p.m., finding the child unconscious and not breathing. Emergency personnel successfully revived him and transported him to McClane Children’s Hospital, where he received further medical care.

Investigations revealed that the toddler had climbed to peek through the moonroof and inadvertently activated its closing mechanism, which trapped his neck. This tragic mistake restricted his airway and led to a severe situation upon Moreno’s return.

With the evidence presented, the case was referred to the Bell County District Attorney’s Office. On March 25, Moreno was formally charged with injury to a child. She was later detained and released on a $50,000 bond two days after her arrest.

This incident has sparked discussions on the safety measures parents should consider when leaving children in vehicles, especially when attending momentary errands. It underscores the unpredictability of children’s actions and highlights a need for vigilance.

The well-being of Moreno’s children post-incident has not been disclosed as authorities continue to review the details surrounding the case. The public and local community are urged to remain cautious and adhere to safety guidelines to prevent similar incidents.

The story has captivated attention due to the nature of the accident and serves as a reminder of the potential dangers associated with everyday situations. It remains to be seen how the legal proceedings will unfold for Moreno in the coming weeks.
