LAC LA BELLE, Wis. — A 27-year-old woman has been charged with first-degree intentional homicide following a deadly confrontation at her home where her boyfriend was fatally stabbed. Mikayla R. Kloth is being held on a cash bond of $2 million after the incident involving 25-year-old Lukas John Rosch on Friday night.
Kloth appeared in court for the first time on Monday, where officials detailed the circumstances surrounding the tragic event. The altercation began over dinner plans when Rosch arrived at Kloth’s apartment with chicken intended for a home-cooked meal, while Kloth expressed a desire to dine out instead. The disagreement escalated quickly, resulting in a fatal wound to Rosch’s chest.
According to court documents, authorities responded to a 911 call shortly before 7 p.m. on April 24. Arriving officers discovered Rosch lying on the floor with a serious stab wound. Kloth was still present in the apartment and reportedly admitted to inflicting the injury during a fit of anger. He was transported to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after.
The incident unravelled after Rosch texted Kloth about his intention to prepare dinner. While he brought chicken drumsticks and seasoning for use in an air fryer, Kloth was reportedly reluctant and voiced her preference for going out. The escalation of their disagreement culminated in Kloth stabbing Rosch, despite her initial claim that he had tried to grab a knife.
Prior to the stabbing, friends and acquaintances had expressed concerns about Rosch’s safety. A week earlier, he reportedly told another woman and the apartment landlord about an incident where Kloth had bitten him during an argument, raising potential red flags about the relationship’s dynamics. The landlord noted that Rosch seemed fearful and asked for his name to be remembered in case of an emergency.
As the investigation unfolds, Kloth’s statements provided to law enforcement will play a central role in her upcoming trial. She allegedly inquired whether police needed to take her into custody and expressed thoughts on how Rosch’s family would react to her actions.
Rosch’s family has publicly mourned his loss, describing him as a loving and generous individual. They have requested privacy while dealing with the tragedy of his death. A statement released by the family highlighted their devastation and shared memories of his kindness, which contrasted sharply with the circumstances surrounding the incident.
During the initial court hearing, the presiding judge acknowledged the severity of the charges, noting that first-degree intentional homicide is among the gravest offenses in Wisconsin, carrying the potential for a life sentence. Kloth remains in custody, with no plea entered at this early stage of the proceedings.
The court has scheduled a preliminary hearing for May 29, where the prosecution must present sufficient evidence to support the homicide charge. The defense will have the opportunity to cross-examine witnesses and challenge the evidence, which includes Kloth’s statements and the circumstances of the stabbing.
As the legal process continues, both the community and Rosch’s family are grappling with the aftermath of a life lost to violence, with funeral arrangements underway amid a pending criminal trial.
