West Covina, California – A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputy was hospitalized after being shot in the back while on his motorcycle at an intersection in West Covina. The incident occurred near Barranca Street and North Garvey Avenue, just north of the 10 Freeway.

Deputy Samuel Aispuro, 43, was on duty and in full uniform on his marked police motorcycle when he was targeted in the unexpected attack. Sheriff Robert Luna stated that there were no prior interactions with the suspect leading up to the shooting.

Despite being struck by a single bullet, Deputy Aispuro managed to call for help and was swiftly transported to a nearby hospital. Thankfully, his body armor played a crucial role in saving his life, and he is currently in stable condition. Aispuro, a dedicated officer with over 19 years of service, was en route to a training session at the time of the incident.

Following the shooting, law enforcement initially detained multiple individuals at a residence in La Puente, but later clarified that they were not considered suspects. Authorities are now seeking public assistance in tracking down the perpetrator, described as a public safety risk by Sheriff Luna.

The only information available about the suspect’s vehicle is that it was a white sedan with tinted windows, last seen heading westbound on the 10 Freeway from Barranca. Any leads or tips from the community are encouraged to be reported to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Sheriff Luna emphasized the urgency of locating the suspect, stating, “Somebody saw something. We need to get this person off the street.” The investigation is ongoing, with efforts focused on identifying and apprehending the individual responsible for the targeted attack on Deputy Aispuro.
