Conflicting Accounts Unraveled: Body-Cam Footage Raises Questions in Westlake Homicide Investigation

WESTLAKE, Ohio — A July call for medical assistance unraveled into a complex investigation of homicide following the tragic death of Michele Feather, 57. Emergency responders discovered Michele critically injured in her home, and the inconsistencies in her husband’s account led police to question his involvement in her demise.

William Feather, 65, has pleaded not guilty to multiple charges, including murder, felonious assault, and domestic violence. Following an indictment by a Cuyahoga County grand jury in August, his bail was set at $1 million during his arraignment in Common Pleas Court on Aug. 25. The legal proceedings continue, with prosecutors tasked with proving their allegations in court.

The investigation commenced on July 17 when William Feather called for help, reporting that his wife was unresponsive and struggling to breathe. Initial reports indicated that the situation seemed to be of a medical emergency concerning an unconscious woman. However, the scene that responders encountered profoundly contradicted this assumption.

Upon entering the Feather home, police found blood in various locations, raising alarms about the circumstances surrounding Michele’s injuries. First responders rushed her to University Hospitals St. John Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries later that day. An obituary reflected that her final moments came surrounded by loved ones.

Following their arrival, officers questioned William Feather about how his wife sustained her injuries. Body-camera footage later presented inconsistencies in his statements. Initially, he indicated that Michele had fallen from a couch and denied any history of domestic violence. However, under questioning, he provided conflicting narratives, including denials of having called for emergency help — a claim quickly rectified when reminded by officers of his earlier plea for assistance.

Investigators also noted physical evidence when they examined William Feather, finding dried blood beneath his fingernails and a fresh scratch on his face, which he attributed to shaving. Authorities grew concerned that he was withholding critical information about the events that preceded Michele’s injuries, prompting detectives to transport him to the police department for further questioning.

Further scrutiny of the couple’s home revealed a history of domestic incidents, with police reports indicating prior responses to allegations of domestic violence at the same address. Previous legal action involving Michele, who had requested a court to lift a protection order against William, raises questions about the couple’s past interactions. However, these earlier incidents do not directly connect to the current allegations.

The unfolding case has sparked local interest, centering not just on the charges against William Feather but also on Michele’s life. Her obituary portrays her as a vibrant individual with an affinity for gardening and camaraderie, remembered fondly by friends and coworkers. Former colleagues have voiced that her narrative must extend beyond the tragic circumstances of her death.

Although investigations have suggested specific allegations about William’s actions leading to Michele’s fatal injuries, the legal process has not yet validated these claims in court. Reports indicate that authorities believe he may have pushed her, resulting in grave damage, but the full scope of evidence has yet to be established through legal testimony.

As the criminal case advances, the next pretrial conference is scheduled for Sept. 15. The outcome remains pending, emphasizing the need for thorough examination and the fundamental principle that all charges are allegations until proven in court. The scrutiny surrounding the Feather family continues while the judicial process works to ascertain the truth.
