Child Migrants: Harvard Webinar Advocates for Policy Change in Immigration Detention

Boston, MA – The FXB Center for Health and Human Rights at Harvard University is hosting a virtual webinar to discuss the findings of a report on Child Migrants in Family Immigration Detention in the US. The report, published in January 2024, highlights current pediatric care standards and practices for child migrants in detention centers.

The speakers at the webinar will analyze the impact of the report on future policy decisions, address legal challenges in the current immigration climate, and emphasize the importance of transparency in border security processes and oversight of child-specific procedures. Attendees can participate in a Q&A session following the discussion.

This webinar, scheduled for Thursday, May 2, 2024 from 12:00pm to 1:00pm EDT, requires registration. It is co-sponsored by the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) Asylum Clinic at the MGH Center for Global Health, the Harvard Global Health Institute, and RAICES.

Participants will have the opportunity to engage with experts such as Jacqueline Bhabha, JD, MSc, Director of Research at the FXB Center; Javier Hidalgo, JD, Legal Director at RAICES; and Katherine Peeler, MA, Medical Expert at Physicians for Human Rights. Moderated by Cristela Guerra, Senior Arts and Culture Reporter at WBUR, the webinar aims to shed light on the challenges faced by children in immigration detention.

The event aims to create a platform for meaningful discussion on the treatment of child migrants in family detention centers, advocating for policy changes and better protection of children’s rights.
