SEASIDE, CA – A Monterey County jury has convicted a man of first-degree murder for the brutal killing of his girlfriend’s mother, motivated by unfounded suspicions of infidelity.
Kevin Durran Hart, 47, was found guilty of murdering 65-year-old Jackie Robinson in May 2023 at her residence in Seaside.
Prosecutors said Hart, consumed by baseless jealousy, unleashed his fury on Robinson, attacking her with his bare hands and a piece of glass from a table. The violent assault occurred after Hart became convinced that his girlfriend was cheating on him.
Seaside Police discovered Hart at the scene, covered in blood. Despite efforts to revive Robinson, she succumbed to her injuries. The prosecutor’s office described the case as one of “imagined infidelity,” driving Hart to violence, channeling his anger unjustly.
During the trial, Hart maintained his innocence, asserting he had no involvement with the killing at Robinson’s home on Hamilton Avenue. However, the jury dismissed his claims, convicting him of murder and the use of a deadly weapon.
The conviction highlights a tragic escalation of domestic suspicions into deadly violence. Authorities stressed the impact of such unfounded jealousy and the devastating consequences it can have on families.
No sentencing date has been set, but Hart faces a lengthy prison term following his conviction. This case draws attention to the severe repercussions of unchecked anger and mistrust within personal relationships.
The Monterey County District Attorney’s Office refrained from commenting further on the case but expressed condolences to Robinson’s family. The tragic incident underscores the need for interventions to prevent domestic violence and support for those affected by it.
