Lahore, Pakistan — Police have arrested five people in connection with the assault on Zainab Jamil, a well-known model and beauty salon owner, marking a significant development in a case that has drawn public and media attention due to its violent nature and the victim’s prominence.
Superintendent of Police for the Cantt area, Owais Shafiq, detailed that among the apprehended is a man named Zia, who allegedly provided the motorcycle and the weapons utilized in the brutal assault. Additionally, Zainab’s personal driver, Adeel, played a crucial role by informing her husband, Sardar Jamil, of her movements on the day she was attacked.
The complexity of the plot reveals deeper layers of premeditation, according to investigators. On the day of the attack, Adeel had alerted Sardar Jamil when Zainab went to her salon, effectively setting up the ambush that ensued.
SP Shafiq further noted that Zia facilitated the shooters’ logistics, ensuring their movement to and from the crime scene. The attackers, believed to be from Karachi, had traveled to Lahore specifically to carry out the assault and returned post-attack.
Police efforts have intensified to apprehend the shooters, with teams dispatched to Karachi as part of a broader operation to bring all involved to justice. The focus remains sharp on capturing these remaining suspects who are believed to have executed the attack.
The case also sheds light on a possibly motive-related financial transaction between Zia and Sardar Jamil involving roughly Rs 5.5 million. This revelation hints at financial disputes that could have contributed to the motive behind orchestrating the attack on Jamil.
Zainab and Sardar Jamil were married in 2017, and it was Sardar’s second marriage. Reports suggest that tensions had been brewing, exacerbated by disagreements over Zainab’s career in the entertainment industry, which could have also fueled the conflict leading to the assault.
Currently, Sardar Jamil is out on bail, scheduled to last until the end of June. This development has stirred discussions about the protection available to women in the public eye and the measures needed to ensure their safety.
The case is particularly significant as it highlights the intersection of personal relationships and criminal activities within the backdrop of Pakistan’s societal and cultural frameworks. As the investigation unfolds, authorities are adamant about piecing together all elements of the case to ensure a comprehensive understanding and appropriate legal consequences for those involved.
Further revelations and updates on this high-profile case are expected as law enforcement continue their diligent pursuit of justice for Zainad Jamil. These developments not only underscore the seriousness with which the local authorities are treating the case but also reflect societal shifts towards addressing and condemning violence, especially against women in prominent positions.
