The 74-year-old artist experienced a cardiac arrest while medical staff were attempting to bring her out of a medically induced coma. Resuscitation efforts successfully stabilized her, but she continues to face significant health challenges in the Intensive Care Unit.
Tyler’s health concerns began about a month ago while she was performing in the United Kingdom. Despite initial examinations in London revealing no serious issues, her condition worsened as she traveled to the Algarve for some rest. Her close friend, Liberto Mealha, has been vocal about her struggle, sharing that she felt increasingly unwell after a concert in London. Although she sought medical advice, the underlying problem remained undetected at that time.
After enduring persistent abdominal pain, Tyler’s husband, Robert Sullivan, took her to a private clinic. There, medical evaluations prompted her urgent transfer to Faro Hospital on April 30, where doctors discovered her ruptured intestines. This turn of events triggered immediate surgery to address the life-threatening condition.
In an effort to aid her recovery, Tyler was placed into an induced coma. A representative for the singer issued a statement urging privacy during this challenging time, while expressing gratitude for the outpouring of support from fans worldwide. Medical professionals have described her condition as “seriously ill but stable” and have indicated optimism regarding her recovery process.

Mealha spoke about Sullivan’s gratitude toward the medical team at Faro, noting that he believes Tyler’s survival is largely due to their prompt care, suggesting she may not have fared as well had she remained in the U.K.
