Born on Aug. 16, 1974, in Digby, Nova Scotia, Fleming’s passion for the performing arts blossomed during her childhood. She honed her skills through various drama programs while simultaneously supporting her family through modeling. Her early television appearances were modest, including a role in the 1994 NBC film “Viper” and an uncredited part in Adam Sandler’s “Happy Gilmore.”
Fleming’s breakthrough came in the horror genre. In 2005, she was cast by renowned director Dario Argento in the “Masters of Horror” episode titled “Jenifer.” This intense performance showcased her range as an actress and laid the groundwork for further horror roles, leading to parts in films like “The Tooth Fairy” and “Bloodsuckers.”
In“Supernatural,” she first appeared as a terminally ill nurse in the series pilot and later portrayed Karen Singer, the deceased wife of Bobby Singer, in several poignant episodes. Despite only appearing in a handful of episodes, her portrayal left a lasting emotional impact, becoming integral to the storyline of her character’s husband.
A memorable figure in “iZombie,” Fleming portrayed Candy Baker, a character known for her humor and complexity throughout five seasons. Her multi-faceted performance as a henchwoman navigating a darkly comic world resonated with audiences and solidified her role as a fan favorite.
Outside of her television work, Fleming was dedicated to theater, participating in productions such as “Noises Off” and “Romeo and Juliet.” She remained a vital part of the arts community in British Columbia, fostering connections with local artists and audiences alike.
Fleming is survived by her daughter, Madalyn Rose, and her ex-husband, Ronald James McConaghy. At the time of her passing, she was in a relationship with Caedmon Somers, a producer at EA Games. Plans for a memorial service will be shared in the coming weeks, as family and friends remember the vibrant actress who touched many lives.
Her agent, Simona Crone, described Fleming as a “beautiful soul” whose kindness and spirit inspired those around her. The entertainment community and her fans will remember her not only for her impressive body of work but also for her warmth and charisma.
