BAKERSFIELD, CA – A California man was arrested and charged in the death of his 71-year-old father after allegedly admitting to attacking him over a financial dispute, authorities said.
Police responded to a home on Chandler Way shortly after 6:30 p.m. on October 13, where they discovered the elder Alfred Juarez unresponsive inside the residence. Paramedics at the scene pronounced him dead. According to investigators, the victim exhibited visible signs of having been assaulted.
Detectives quickly turned their attention to the victim’s son, 49-year-old Alfred Juarez Jr., who had reportedly left the scene before officers arrived. Authorities tracked Juarez Jr. to Los Angeles County, where he was detained and later brought back to Kern County to face multiple felony charges, including murder, theft from an elder adult with great bodily harm, robbery, and carjacking.
Court records indicate Juarez Jr. currently remains in Kern County Jail with no bail set. His next court hearing is scheduled for October 27.
Surveillance footage reviewed by police allegedly captured key moments leading up to the fatal encounter. Video evidence reportedly showed the younger Juarez forcefully opening the front screen door, trailing his father outside, and then punching him in the head. Detectives say Juarez Jr. then spun his father around, grabbed his car keys, and fled the scene in his father’s vehicle.
The incident reportedly began over an unpaid debt. During an interview with investigators, Juarez Jr. allegedly stated that his father owed him $5,000, prompting his visit to the home. When confronted by his father and told to leave, the suspect claimed he grew angry and decided to escalate the situation.
According to police, Juarez Jr. told officers he returned inside the residence to “finish the job” after the initial altercation, fully aware of his father’s history of heart problems. Detectives say Juarez Jr. expressed no remorse for his actions, instead emphasizing the financial dispute that preceded the incident.
Records also show that Juarez Jr. made similar comments during a previous encounter involving his father in 2020, which reportedly resulted in a heart attack after an assault.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. The death of Alfred Juarez Sr. marks another instance of alleged familial violence unfolding under tragic circumstances.
No further details about the ongoing investigation or potential additional witnesses have been released by law enforcement at this time.
