BRENTWOOD, NY – In a case that has gripped a Brentwood neighborhood for more than a year, a 38-year-old man is now facing up to 17 years behind bars after a brutal attack that left his children’s mother wounded and a community in shock.
The violent incident unfolded in November 2024 inside a quiet suburban home, where Albaro Chacon and the mother of his two young children resided. According to law enforcement officials, what began as an ordinary night turned into a terrifying ordeal when the woman awoke to find Chacon standing over her with a knife.
Authorities say Chacon uttered a chilling threat, warning the victim of her fate, before launching a vicious assault. The woman, fighting for her life and desperate to protect herself and her 2-year-old niece, suffered multiple stab wounds to her arms as she struggled to keep the blade from her chest. Despite the chaos, she managed to shield the child from harm.
As the struggle continued, the woman seized an opportunity to flee the bedroom. Once outside, she encountered a motorist and pleaded for help, prompting someone to call emergency services. At the same time, she discovered her own children, aged 6 and 5, had been placed in a car nearby—presumably by Chacon before the attack began.
In the moments that followed, Chacon reportedly chased after the injured woman. Witnesses said her young son got out of the car and urgently begged his father to end the violence. After a brief confrontation, Chacon retreated back into the house.
Authorities later recounted that inside the home, Chacon attempted to erase the evidence of the attack. Investigators described a strong odor of bleach in the air and noted that bed sheets had been stripped and removed. The woman re-entered the house to evade Chacon once more, finding the scene altered but still bearing signs of violence.
Responding officers swiftly arrested Chacon at the residence. The victim, whose injuries required hospitalization, received immediate medical attention.
Following a jury trial in November 2025, Chacon was found guilty of multiple charges, including attempted assault, assault, evidence tampering, and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child. On Monday, the court imposed a sentence of 15 to 17 years in state prison, bringing some measure of closure to a harrowing episode for the family and the surrounding community.
