VINE GROVE, KY – Authorities say a confrontation in a Dollar General parking lot escalated into a harrowing case of suspected domestic violence.
Around midnight, police received a call from a woman claiming she had been attacked and choked by 48-year-old Donald Brown. According to investigators, the incident began inside a vehicle parked outside the store on the outskirts of Vine Grove. What started as an argument quickly erupted into physical violence, with the woman alleging Brown strangled her before she tumbled from the car, hitting her head as she crashed onto the pavement.
The suspect fled the scene, prompting the injured woman to reach out to authorities. State troopers described a chaotic series of events as officers raced through the quiet streets of Meade County and arrived at Brown’s residence on Jennings Knob Road. Yet, when police located him at home, Brown reportedly barricaded himself inside, refusing to surrender to officers’ repeated demands to come out.
With the suspect holed up inside the house, law enforcement moved swiftly to secure search and arrest warrants. The tense standoff stretched into the early hours, leaving the rural community on edge. At sunrise, shortly after 7:30 a.m., troopers entered the residence and apprehended Brown without further incident.
Jail records show Brown now faces a felony charge of first-degree strangulation in connection with domestic violence, as well as an additional charge of fourth-degree domestic assault, inflicting minor injury. He is currently being held without bond at the county jail.
The woman who alerted authorities was able to communicate with police and is believed to have suffered only minor injuries, though officials have withheld details of her condition as the investigation remains active.
Officials have declined to comment further, citing the ongoing nature of the case. Details such as when Brown will next appear in court have not yet been released.
Vine Grove, with a population of nearly 6,000, sits about 45 miles south of Louisville and is known for its tight-knit community and quiet streets. The shocking nature of the alleged attack has rattled residents in the normally peaceful town, as authorities continue to examine what led up to the violent episode in the store parking lot.
Law enforcement has not disclosed what they believe prompted the confrontation, and it remains unclear whether the two individuals had a history of conflict prior to Saturday night’s incident. As the case develops, residents await further information on charges and possible court dates.
