MIDDLEBOROUGH, MA – A violent confrontation in a quiet suburban Middleborough neighborhood Sunday night ended in tragedy when a 66-year-old man died from multiple stab wounds, authorities said.
Andrew Horsman, 41, was taken into custody and charged with murder after police responded to a flurry of 911 calls reporting a fight around 8 p.m. When officers arrived, they discovered Paul Pomerleau, identified as the longtime boyfriend of Horsman’s mother, suffering from several stab wounds. Emergency responders transported Pomerleau to a hospital, but he was pronounced dead soon after.
According to authorities, multiple witnesses saw an argument between Horsman and Pomerleau that quickly escalated into violence. While officials did not disclose specific details of the dispute, family members revealed the two men had a longstanding feud that finally reached a breaking point.
Neighbors said the altercation was shocking for the usually peaceful neighborhood. One resident described Pomerleau as a “gentle giant” and recalled knowing him for decades. He said Pomerleau was always ready to lend a hand and was well-liked in the community.
Pomerleau’s family shared that he was a devoted father and grandfather, remembered for his warmth and generosity toward loved ones. Expressions of grief circulated among relatives, who described him as someone with a unique ability to make people feel like family.
Authorities stated that Horsman was identified at the scene and taken into custody without incident. He is set to appear in Wareham District Court on murder charges brought by the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office.
Details about what led to the deadly confrontation have not been made public, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Middleborough police, along with state investigators, have not indicated whether additional charges are expected as they continue to gather information from witnesses and family members.
The stabbing comes amid ongoing efforts by local authorities to address domestic violence and prevent escalation of family disputes within area communities.
Horsman remains in custody as the legal process moves forward, while Pomerleau’s family and friends mourn the sudden loss.
