NEW CASTLE, DELAWARE – The New Castle County Social Security Administration office is facing a temporary closure due to HVAC issues, according to administration officials on Monday.
The office, located at 920 W. Basin Road in New Castle, has been closed for “in-person services,” as stated on the federal Social Security Administration website. The closure was brought to light by a concerned citizen who visited the office and found it closed, along with several other elderly individuals who had also been affected.
The spokesperson from the Social Security Administration’s Philadelphia Regional Communications Office stated that the office will remain closed until the HVAC issues are resolved. They also encouraged people to check the status of their local Social Security office through their Office Closings and Emergencies website.
In the meantime, employees from the New Castle office are still available to assist the public via phone at 1-866-667-7221. For those who require in-person services, alternative offices in Dover and Lewes remain open.
Most services can also be accessed online at www.ssa.gov or by calling 1-800-772-1213. People who are deaf or hard of hearing may call Social Security’s TTY number at 1-800-325-0778. Additionally, personalized accounts can be created on the website for accessing Social Security benefits, setting up direct deposit, and confirming proof of benefits.
The New Castle County office’s temporary closure serves as a reminder for individuals to utilize the various alternative methods to access Social Security services during this period. The Social Security Administration aims to ensure that individuals can still fulfill their requirements and receive support despite the temporary closure of the New Castle office.
