STEVENS POINT, Wis. — A criminal investigation has unveiled allegations of drink tampering involving a woman’s purported acts against her former husband, a situation that highlights the psychological and health ramifications of domestic disputes. The case centers around Jessica Meis, 37, of Plover, who faces serious charges after her ex-husband installed a kitchen camera out of suspicion that his health issues were linked to sabotage.
Meis has been charged with aggravated battery with a domestic violence modifier and two counts of placing foreign objects in food and drink. Her arrest occurred on July 21, following police scrutiny of video recordings from her ex-husband’s home. The couple’s tumultuous relationship appears to have escalated to extreme measures with significant implications for their health and family dynamics. Meis has not been convicted, and during a court hearing on July 27, she opted to defer formal charges until she secures legal representation.
The investigation gained momentum after the man set up a camera on July 14, documenting video footage that revealed concerning behavior. According to police reports, on July 18, the recording showed Meis allegedly pouring an unknown substance from a small container into her ex-husband’s water bottle. This instance drew police attention not only for the act itself but because it contradicted mere conjectures about the man’s health issues. The footage appeared to capture the moment of deliberate tampering while two children were present, raising further alarms about their safety.
Further recordings from July 16 depicted Meis handling an eye-drop solution, leading authorities to suspect she may have mixed it into another beverage. Notably, this drink was later consumed by another individual, underlining the potential risks of such actions extending beyond the intended target. The case has ignited public interest, particularly regarding the man’s long-standing health problems, which have involved unexplained bouts of severe symptoms for several years.
The man’s health has been a cause for concern, with reports of multiple hospitalizations linked to troubling symptoms like dizziness, extreme fatigue, and dangerously low blood pressure. His medical history, combined with the new evidence from the kitchen camera, has painted a troubling picture of repeated illness patterns coinciding with Meis’ presence in the home. Even after their divorce in June 2025, the couple shared custody of their children, leaving Meis with access to the residence.
In interviews with investigators, Meis initially claimed that she had only attempted to help her ex-husband’s health issues by introducing saline into his drinks. However, she ultimately admitted to pouring eye drops into his beverages, claiming she had done so “many times.” Investigators have noted that her explanations shifted during questioning, revealing a disturbing intent behind her actions—an assertion that she wished to manipulate her ex-husband into relying on her for care.
Health experts have indicated that tetrahydrozoline, a key ingredient in some eye drops, can pose serious health risks when ingested, including lethargy and cardiac complications. These serious concerns added weight to the investigation as law enforcement began to build a case against Meis based on physiological evidence and her own admissions.
The case is proceeding through the court system in Portage County, where Meis remains incarcerated on a $100,000 cash bond following her arrest. A future court date has been set for Aug. 31, as the legal process unfolds. Until the matter is resolved, the allegations documented in police reports and the evidence gathered will serve as the framework for the prosecution’s case against her.
