INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Authorities have charged a 46-year-old man with multiple offenses after he allegedly attempted to murder his estranged wife in two unsettling incidents within just a few days.
Carlton Gray is accused of trying to run down his wife with his vehicle as she left her job at a local Goodwill store. Witnesses reported that Gray had a history of harassment toward her, with police saying he frequently threatened, “I’m going to kill you.”
The very next day, Gray allegedly broke into a home where his estranged wife sought refuge, firing multiple rounds from a firearm and striking her once in the leg. Police documents indicate that he discharged five bullets during the incident, underscoring a serious escalation in his violent behavior.
In light of these allegations, Gray faces significant legal consequences. Court records list charges including two counts each of attempted murder and intimidation, as well as burglary, battery with a deadly weapon, and unlawful possession due to his prior felony status. His lengthy criminal history includes an arrest for domestic battery in 2005, and he has an ongoing case related to reckless homicide from 2020.
During a recent court appearance, Gray’s bond was set at $200,000. Should he secure his release, he must adhere to stringent conditions: a no-contact order with his estranged wife, mandatory GPS monitoring, and home detention. His next hearing is scheduled for June 11.
Despite his detention, Gray remains a person of interest in the ongoing homicide investigation. The recent accusations of attempted murder reveal a troubling pattern of violence that has concerned both law enforcement and the community at large.
The estranged wife has told police that the threats extend beyond her, targeting her new partner as well. Gray is alleged to have issued the same lethal threats against him, raising alarms about his potential for further harm.
As investigations continue, the seriousness of the charges and Gray’s history of abusive conduct have heightened anxieties among the public. Community members are wary as they await further developments in both the attempted murder case and the outstanding homicide charge against Gray.
