MEMPHIS, TN – The murder trial of Brandon Isabelle began this week, drawing national attention as prosecutors detailed a disturbing sequence of events that led to the deaths of 27-year-old Danielle Hoyle and her newborn, Kennedy Hoyle. Isabelle, 28, faces charges of first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse, aggravated kidnapping, and has pleaded not guilty to all allegations.
The case centers on events that unfolded in late January and early February 2022. Prosecutors allege Isabelle meticulously devised a plan to remove both Hoyle and their infant daughter from his life after becoming involved with another woman.
Jurors heard that Isabelle learned of Hoyle’s labor on January 30, 2022, and was present at the hospital for the birth. However, during this time, he remained in contact with a new romantic interest, reportedly discussing the future of their relationship as the baby was born.
Authorities say both women, including Hoyle and Isabelle’s new girlfriend, worked at a FedEx facility where Isabelle was also employed. The new relationship created considerable tension, prosecutors claim, with messages revealing the woman’s reluctance to be involved with a partner who had a child and an ex-girlfriend.
After Kennedy’s birth in the early hours of January 31, 2022, Isabelle left the hospital and met his new girlfriend at Mud Island, according to testimony presented in court. The meeting allegedly ended unresolved, but by the next day, Hoyle and her daughter were released from the hospital.
On February 1, prosecutors say Isabelle contacted Hoyle, offering to bring baby clothes. She agreed to meet him at a local convenience store. Once there, Isabelle is accused of persuading Hoyle to drive to a secluded area in the city.
According to officials, Isabelle approached Hoyle’s vehicle and shot her multiple times, leaving her body in a ditch. He then reportedly took Kennedy, still in her car seat, and drove away. Investigators allege that Isabelle returned home briefly before driving back to Mud Island, where cameras captured his vehicle. There, authorities allege he threw the infant into the river.
Following the incident, Isabelle was seen sending messages to his new girlfriend and shopping at local stores, all while continuing to text Hoyle, knowing she would never respond, prosecutors said. Police later discovered Danielle Hoyle’s body, but found no sign of Kennedy or her car seat at the scene.
Officer testimony revealed that a police patrol initially discovered Hoyle’s car, leading to the eventual grim finding of her body. The investigation quickly led officers to detain Isabelle and his new girlfriend. Upon searching Isabelle, police report finding evidence, including blood matching Hoyle, and statements that implicated him further.
Kennedy’s body has not been recovered, but authorities cited physical evidence and surveillance footage as crucial elements in their case. Court records also show that the alleged murders occurred on Isabelle’s 25th birthday.
As the trial continues, prosecutors are expected to call additional witnesses and introduce more forensic evidence. Defense counsel emphasized that the burden remains on the prosecution to prove Isabelle’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
